In December 2005 I achieved a lifetime ambition to visit Antarctica. Getting there is not easy as it is so remote and there are no commercial airports. We took a cruise with Ambercrombie & Kent from Usuahia which is in Argentina and is located at the bottom of South America. Our ship Explorer II took us across the Drake Passage and yes the ship did roll a bit! to Antarctica where we cruised for 7 days.
Each day involved putting on many layers of clothing, a bright red and extremely windproof parka, which was given to us and a life jacket. Then 10 of us at a time climb into the zodiac craft which take us ashore.
Every day we visited two different location where we would either go ashore or tour around in the zodiacs. Trips would last anything up to 2 hrs, so it was very important to dress warmly. Click of any of the photo below to see some of my images from this memorable trip.
